Going To Duke

If you know anything about me, you know that for years and years I’ve been a Duke Basketball fanatic. I think I was in love with Grant Hill – yes the high top fade version of Grant Hill. In all this time, I’ve never even been to Duke. Or anywhere in North Carolina for that matter. But no more! I’ve finally made it to the campus. … and not only that, but to Cameron Indoor Stadium where the games are played. Man, I felt like a kid in Disneyland I was so excited. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go inside the building because the team was practicing. Aaaargh. So close yet so far away.

One day…

I was happy just being in the environment. :-) My friend didn’t think it was that special. She prefers University of North Carolina. (Probably because I have annoyed her for years with all my Duke talk.)

No Happiness in Krzyzewskiville

Well boys and girls, I was wrong. Duke will not be cutting down the nets on April 3.

They are not even going to be in the Elite 8. Last night in a sad sad game against LSU, my Duke Blue Devils lost. My boy JJ Reddick couldn’t hit a shot. Nothing was going. He was cold in the first half and even colder in the second. I nearly cried it was so sad.

Anyway… I want to thank all my friends who have called with condolences. And even those who have called to … how you say… ‘rub it in’.

We are Duke. We’ll be back next year! :-)

my tourney picks

1st round upsets…
#10 NC State over #7 Cal go ACC
#9 Bucknell over #8 Arkansas just a feeling
#12 Utah St over # 5 Washington there’s always a 5 /12 upset .. i just hope i’ve picked the right one
#10 Seton Hall over #7 Wichita St Big East is a tough conference man
#9 Wisconsin over #8 Arizona hmm.. not really too sure about this one

Now for the serious stuff….

Sweet 16
Duke/Cuse; Iowa/Texas
Memphis/Pitt; Indiana/UCLA
Uconn/Illinois; UNC/ Tennessee
Nova/BC; Florida/Ohio St

Elite 8
Duke/Iowa ; Pitt/ UCLA; Uconn/UNC ; Nova/Ohio St

Final 4
Duke/Pitt; Uconn/Nova
( I admit my east coast bias) UCLA could very well beat Pitt in the Elite 8 round, but how many times have I stayed up to see UCLA play?!?

Champion
Duke vs. Nova

Duke will be cutting down the nets on April 3 …(come on…are you really suprised by this pick??)

..let the madness begin!

About a week ago Duke lost a game against rival North Carolina. If there is one team Duke can just not lose to, its UNC. But that’s what happened. It was really awful. Duke was sailing through the season and all of a sudden 2 losses in a row. I couldn’t deal with the criticism of the team and of stars JJ Redick and Sheldon Williams …so I didn’t watch ESPN or listen to ESPN radio for 4 days after.

I was afraid of the possiblity that Duke would face UNC again for the ACC championship. But… a few days ago, in an unlikely turn of events,ACC newcomer Boston College beat UNC in the semi final round. So today, it was Duke, BC for the ACC title.

By the narrowest of margins, Duke won. DUKE WON. DUKE WON!!!!! AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!

Its on!

In a few minutes the NCAA selection committee will announce the brackets. I can only hope that Duke will be number 1 in the south region.

Let the madness begin. :-)

(PS: I should warn you that for the next 2 weeks, most of my posts will be about bastketball, but I’ll throw in a couple of things for you non-basketball people too.)
